Frequently Asked Questions
What is BiCarb Plus?
BiCarb Plus is the first Australian bicarbonate supplement designed to better serve athletes.
Bicarbonate is one of the most researched performance compounds in sport — it's a proven buffer that fights the acid buildup that kills your speed and power in the final stages of hard efforts. The problem has always been usability: bloating, nausea, stomach cramps. That's not a minor inconvenience, it's why most athletes have written it off entirely.
BiCarb Plus solves it. The formula uses a hydrogel matrix — a carbohydrate base that forms a protective gel when mixed with water — which carries the bicarbonate through the stomach intact, bypassing the gut irritation that's plagued every other product on the market. You get the performance benefit without spending your warm-up in the bathroom.
Same science. Finally usable.
How does it improve performance?
Sodium bicarbonate works as a buffer. During high-intensity exercise, hydrogen ions build up in working muscles and contribute to fatigue. Supplementing raises blood bicarbonate levels, which helps clear those ions out of the muscle. Meta-analyses show a 2 to 3 percent performance improvement in efforts lasting 30 seconds to 12 minutes.
What are the ingredients?
Four ingredients: sodium bicarbonate, fructose, maltodextrin and xanthan gum. No flavours, sweeteners, colours, fillers or stimulants.
Is it vegan and gluten-free?
Yes. BiCarb Plus is vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free.
How much should I take?
Dose by body weight at 0.2 to 0.3 g/kg of sodium bicarbonate.
When should I take it?
90 to 120 minutes before your event or session.
How do I prepare it?
Mix one scoop of Element A with 60mL of water and stir until a gel forms.
Add your calculated serving of bicarb (element B) using the custom scoop. Mix thoroughly.
Eat like a yoghurt.
Which sports does it help with?
Any sport with high-intensity efforts in the 30-second to 120 minute range, plus repeated-sprint sports. Strong evidence for: 400m to 1500m running, 100m to 400m swimming, 2000m rowing, track cycling, CrossFit, BJJ, MMA, boxing, and team sports with repeated sprint efforts.
Will it upset my stomach?
The hydrogel format is designed to minimise GI side effects, and most users have no significant issues at the standard dose. To minimise risk: take it with adequate water, pair with a small carbohydrate snack, and trial in training before competing. If you experience any distress, drop to 0.2 g/kg or split your dose.
Is sodium bicarbonate safe?
Yes, at sports-supplement doses for healthy adults. It has been studied since the 1930s and is one of the most researched performance supplements.
Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding, on a sodium-restricted diet, or with kidney disease, hypertension or heart conditions. Consult a doctor if unsure.
Is it WADA legal?
Yes. Sodium bicarbonate is not on the WADA prohibited list and is permitted in competition at all levels. The Australian Institute of Sport classifies it as a Group A supplement (highest evidence category, approved for elite use).
Is BiCarb Plus HASTA certified?
BiCarb Plus is currently in the process of obtaining HASTA certification — the Australian batch-testing program that screens supplements against the full WADA prohibited list. Batch certificates will be available here once certification is complete. Certificate of Analysis documentation is available on request for every batch.
Does it contain caffeine or stimulants?
No. BiCarb Plus is a single-mechanism buffering supplement. Stack it with caffeine, beta-alanine or creatine if you want — no known interactions.
How much does it cost?
AUD $79.99 per 12 dose pack.
Free shipping on orders over $99.
How many doses per pack?
It depends on your body weight, since the dose scales at 0.2 to 0.3 g/kg. Multiply this by your body weight. Each purchase includes 240g of sodium bicarbonate.
